What If the Dinosaurs Just Moved Somewhere Else?
Recorded in Chinese
A Cantonese podcast’s speculative comparison of humans and AI sends my imagination toward space. I also reflect on the host’s appeal and wish for a conversation between him and Jonathan Bi.
00:01 Today I want to share something
00:03 I heard on a podcast
00:06 that I found very interesting.
00:11 The guest on that episode said,
00:16 why is Elon Musk working on spaceflight?
00:22 Because our relationship to AI
00:27 may be like dinosaurs' relationship to us.
00:32 Before humanity goes extinct,
00:38 Musk's SpaceX program
00:40 could send humans to another planet.
00:45 Then I started wondering:
00:47 if this
00:50 wildly imaginative idea
00:52 could really become reality,
00:56 would that mean
00:58 dinosaurs did not actually go extinct?
01:01 Maybe they only went somewhere
01:04 humans do not know about,
01:06 where their species continues to survive.
01:09 Could that possibility exist?
01:12 Some scientists today may also be
01:15 looking for similar traces.
01:17 But there does not seem to be a firm conclusion
01:20 that dinosaurs are extinct.
01:23 There are also
01:27 rumors in society
01:31 about whether dragons exist,
01:32 with different kinds of speculation
01:36 or so-called sightings in the sky.
01:41 I do not know
01:43 where that whole idea came from,
01:46 but I still find it interesting.
01:49 And then...
01:52 Right.
01:53 That is one thing
01:55 I recently heard on a podcast and found fascinating.
01:59 The episode came from
02:02 the latest episode of a Cantonese podcast I love.
02:08 The podcast is called Questions We All Have.
02:14 In Cantonese, it should be pronounced...
02:17 Questions We All Have.
02:22 My Cantonese isn't very standard,
02:24 because Cantonese is not my first language.
02:25 I can only understand it,
02:28 and speak a little.
02:31 So when I discovered this episode...
02:34 I rarely listen to Cantonese podcasts.
02:36 But when I found this episode
02:39 and the host's show,
02:42 I thought, wow,
02:43 I really love this podcast.
02:46 I even feel that I really like the host himself.
02:49 Some of his qualities
02:51 make me admire him.
02:54 In an earlier episode,
02:56 I mentioned that I really like Jonathan Bi.
02:59 I mean Jonathan Bi himself.
03:01 I feel
03:02 that the two of them have very similar energy.
03:05 So I started wondering
03:07 whether they might
03:09 record an interview together
03:13 and discuss each other's
03:15 research interests,
03:18 or the questions each of them cares about.
03:21 I would really love to see that episode happen.
03:24 But I do not know whether it will become real,
03:27 because they are based in different places.
03:30 So,
03:32 I can only say I am making a wish.
03:34 Whether it comes true
03:36 will depend on what happens in the future.
